Benefits of Job Hopping

Have you ever thought...I hate my job, but I can't afford to have it look like I'm a job hopper on my resume? Yeah, so have I! BUT I have to tell you, we spend too much time at work to be unhappy. Plus! There are some benefits to job hopping:

  1. Exploring different roles and industries in various phases of your career is necessary. This exploration gives you the opportunity to find the type of work that fuels your passion and may lead you closer to your dream job.

  2. By changing jobs more frequently you have the opportunity to build a larger network of people. Of course, you want to make sure you are not burning bridges when you transition to the next place, but naturally if you work for three organizations in ten years; you may have more contacts than someone who only worked for one.

  3. Often times you can grow your salary in larger increments by leaving your organization and taking similar roles with larger organizations. Unfortunately, research shows that you have a better chance of getting a larger salary increase as an external hire.

See! Job hopping isn't all bad. I would advise that you work hard to maintain relationships. Also, be careful to make changes strategically and avoid haphazard moves or decisions based solely on salary. Are you ready to make a change? I can help tiffani@theofficeinformant.com.
