Did you watch football this weekend? If not, you missed big wins and a few upsets! Thanksgiving weekend is always an action-packed Rivalry Weekend.
If you have not guessed, I like college football. Well...I like Alabama Football!!!
Keep reading, it gets good, I promise!
So, I saw a valuable lesson play out while watching the game Saturday and I want to share this aha moment with you.
So, long story short, my team, Alabama, did not play well this week against Auburn, but they won. Let me tell you how…
So there’s defense and offense, right?! Alabama literally played the worst offense I have seen all season long. However, the defense did a fantastic job keeping the opposing team at bay. In the last 20-something seconds of the game, the team got it together and tied the game for overtime!!!

You are probably thinking why are you using football anecdotes...Here’s the lesson:
Your career plans may not have worked thus far, but 2021 is not over. Like those last 25 seconds, you can use the last month of the year to set yourself up to win. What matters is gathering your offense and making game-winning plays. If you are not where you want to be right now, here are a few things you can do next month to win in 2022:
Get clear on your goals-Take a look at your resolutions or vision board for the year. Remind yourself of what you wanted to accomplish this year. Celebrate what you accomplished!
Create a plan-If you were fortunate enough to meet your goals for the year, what’s next? If you are still working to meet your goals, what can you do this year to get closer? What steps should you take and what potential obstacles are in your way? What resources do you need for support?
Get others involved-Tap into your network for answers and opportunities! The power of informational interviews and the hidden job market are REAL. My last two jobs are because of former colleagues that I contacted for help.
Keep learning-Alway.Keep.Learning. Take a course, listen to podcasts, read books, and learn from successes and failures over the course of your career.
Get help-Mentors and career coaches are great resources to aid your career. If you don’t have one already, identify a mentor. Are you at a point in your career that you need a more customized plan? Enlist the help of a career coach.
Alabama went into 4OTs and won the game by two points!!! Their defense kept them in the game, and the offense got the WIN! Are you ready to win?
