What phase are you in?

There are three main phases of your career journey. We go in and out of these phases several times in our careers. In one phase, we are learning about the industries and roles within them. In another phase, we have made a decision, and we're learning and growing. In the last stage, you are established in your role and ready for promotion. Let's take a look at each!

  • Explorer-This is when you are typically just entering the workforce or exploring something new. Suppose you are a more seasoned employee and in this phase. You may be frustrated or maxed out in your current role/industry and ready for a new challenge. Shifting your mindset for change and planning your next steps are essential in this phase. This will prevent you from getting stuck here. ENJOY this phase. There is a lot to learn here.

  • Settler-This is when you have found your industry or area of discipline. This is a great time to become proficient and build your muscle. The key in this phase is not to get too comfortable...get certifications, ask for feedback, or get a mentor. Learn as much as you can and build a reputation for yourself.

  • Navigator-You now have some experience under your belt and perhaps a name for yourself. During this time, people can depend on your knowledge and expertise. Lean into this role, and if you have not already, develop your leadership skills. This is the phase where you are ready to level up!

So, with a brief explanation, where are you? Where have you been? Where would you like to be? There are benefits to each phase, and no one is better than the other. The key is not to find yourself stuck.

I look forward to sharing more tips on navigating each of these phases.
